The 1520 class was introduced in 1951. A total of 5 units (model RSC3) was built at Schenectady for the CP. All are/were based in Barreiro and their duties were the same as of the 1500 class. The five RSC3's were rebuilt during the seventies, too.
The active fleet was in early 98 down to 1522, 1524 (Bar 7.92) and 1525. 1525 has a future as a historic unit, it emerged the Barreiro shops in 1998 in green&silver with black trucks for the 50 year celebrations of the foundation of the Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses. The same three units were still running in early 1999, the 1522 only around Barreiro station as station pilot, usually a 1200 class duty.
Darren Walker reported: During the Summer months 99 the remaining RSC-3 have settled down on their passenger only diagrams, the common workings being the Inter-Regionals (infrequent appearences) and Regional services between the Algarve/Alentejo to Barreiro, they are also common performers on the Suburban trains out of Barreiro to Setubal and Praias-Sado.
