Trip report by Vic Lines: We had heard that the MLW's were still working the Covilha line because one of our friends had gone the week before use, but we knew that sectorisation was approaching: Mon. 15 March 1999 Turned up at Faro station, after Flying from Gatwick. Plan was to do the overnight train to Barreiro. It should have been a 1931, but 1510 made an appearance on R4706, 2140 Vila Real - Barreiro. (The 1935 Barreiro - Vila Real was viewed at Albufeira and was a 1931. Tue 16. March 1512 on 0550 Funcheira - Barreiro. The 0835 Barreiro - Beja was a 1931. Went to Abrantes for the MLW's. All passenger trains to Covilha were 1931s :-( We were a week too late. Depressed, we headed back down south to Barreiro for:- 1510 :-) on R4704 2354 Barreiro - Vila Real. Wed 17 March Woke up at Vila Real. Did 1510 on R5908 0858 Vila Real - Lagos (as far as Faro, where it was replaced by a 1200.) Spent the day around Lagos / Tunes / Albufeira for: 1510 :-) on R4706 2143 Vila Real - Barreiro. Thu 18 March Woke up at Pinhal Novo. We made our way to Barreiro Depot and got invited for a look around. 1512 arrived on shed after working the 0550 Funcheira - Barreiro and 1510 worked the 0825 Barreiro - Beja! No other RSC2/3's were viewed. The security guard wouldn't let us around the works. We dissapeared up to Porto after that. We did get 1963 from Porto Sao Bento to Companha after asking the driver if we could do the empties from a PTG railtour! 1511 was doing Barreiro yard duties on 16/3/99 and 18/3/99. Don't know about the other days. 1570 was seen at Pinhal Novo, in one of the sidings, and a pair of 1550s was seen in the night somewhere from the overnight train - far south from Pinhal Novo.
