40 Class (RSC-3)

The first of the 20 road switchers was put into service an Nov. 30th 1951. They're modified concerning several parts of the body, such as a different cab and a three-step ladder next to the buffers instead of the steps from the side otherwise to be found on the RSC's.

All are retired since, 4002 and 4006 were sold to Robe River Iron getting nos. 9401 and 9405. These are retired as well but one is preserved by the Pilbara Historical Society. 4001 is preserved at the NSW Rail Transport museum but not operable. Most 40's were traded in for the DL500G's.
