ALCos of the Southern Pacific

As a starter two photos of the ill-fated DH643 diesel hydraulics of the Southern Pacific. The 12-251C engines are lovely, aren't they...? They had two of them resulting in 4300 HP. The 9802 presented here is the 3rd unit of the three dh's built. They were all sold for scrap in August 1973 after only 9 years of existence.

SP 9802 The hydraulics were renumbered into the 9800s in 1969. This shot shows the 9802 in its final phase in central California in 1971.

This time engine no. 1 blackens the sky more than its mate behind.
