The class was manufactured in Argentina by a group of companies called GAIA (Gruppo Aziende Italiane Argentine) between 1963 and 1968. Originally the locomotives were powered by a FIAT 288 ES II engine but several of them were remotorized between 1989 and 1991 with ALCO 12-251 B, the same one that have the RSD-16. This motor was manufactured under license by the Argentine company Materfer. TBA has several units in service, which are circulating on the branch Victoria - Chapel of the General Mitre line with suburban trains.
